Letter from Michel Saykali to his brother Georges Saykali, 29 September 1923

رسالة من ميشال إلى أخيه جورج، ٢۹ أيلول ١۹٢٣

Letter from Michel to his brother Georges. He sends his greetings to his mother and sisters. He tells him about his desire to move to Brazil. He describes Brazil as the New Syria where the Syrian community is wealthier and finer than in Colombia. He is willing to make Brazil his new homeland. He alos tells his brother that Syria is not a good homeland for the Christians especially after the defeat of the State of Greece. He tells him that France may abandon Syria to Turkey. In that case, each Christian will be obliged either to convert to Islam or to find a new country where he could ensure his life and work. He also tells his brother that he will be sending tickets to his family so that they can join him in Brazil. Lastly, he discusses the exploitation of oil in Colombia and its limitations.

رسالة من ميشال إلى أخيه جورج. يرسل فيها سلاماته إلى والدته وشقيقاته. يخبره في هذه الرسالة أنه يفكر في الانتقال إلى البرازيل التي يصفها بأنها سوريا الجديدة. فهي أفضل من كولومبيا والجالية السورية هناك أغنى وأرقى من كولومبيا بكثير. ويقول له أنه يريد الذهاب إلى هناك وجعل البرازيل وطنًا له لأنه هناك أفراد من العائلة. كما يقول له أن سوريا لا تصلح للمسيحي لا سيما بعد انكسار دولة اليونان. وأن فرنسا قد تترك سوريا لتركيا. وبالتالي تصير حالة المسيحي إما أن يأسلم أو أن يرحل الى بلاد يكون فيها أمين على روحه واشغاله. ويقول أيضًا لأخيه أنه سيرسل وراءهم لموافاته في البرازيل. وأخيرًا يقول له أن عملية استشكاف الكاز إن لم تنجح في البئر المذكور بإن لا أمل بالكاز.
