Title

Letter from Alice to Salloum Mokarzel

Description

A letter from Alice to her father, Salloum Mokarzel, written in Beirut, Greater Syria. In this letter, dated January 4, 1926, Alice finally hears back from her father who writes to her from Cleveland. Alice is relieved to be back in school after a 10 day winter vacation. After a visit from one of her cousins that attends an American school, Alice says she felt homesick and might want to attend an American school next year. Alice tells her father that she will start copying her diary to send it to him but she hasn't had the time. She also expresses a great desire to paint, but her teacher, Miss Marie Kassab, tells her she must learn to draw faces and figures first. Nevertheless, her sister Mary lets Alice use her painting supplies and Alice paints her father a small picture.
