Subject
Description
A letter from Alice to her father Salloum Mokarzel, written in their mountain home in Machghara, Greater Syria (modern-day Lebanon). In this letter, dated September 16, 1925, Alice writes to her father, as she has been doing so often, to make him feel close to his family. Alice and her family will be moving to Beirut in a few days. Alice describes how cheap everything is in Lebanon, such as photographs, dressmaking, and rent. She notes that houses are rented for 84 cents a month. Alice hopes she will be able to see her father in the next year, but in the meantime she will continue to write to him and work and study very hard in school to become accomplished, thus ensuring the money spent on her schooling is worthwhile.
