Arabic-Spanish Vocabulary with Phonetic Pronunciation Book was written by Alejandro Schamun (أليخاندرو شمعون) in 1912 at the workshops of the newspaper As-Salam. This book contains both Arabic-Spanish conversation, phonetic pronunciation, and word-for-word equivalents in both languages. His work on this book serves as a bridge between both languages by providing a guide for speakers of either Arabic and Spanish to understand each other.
Alejandro Schamun was born in the city of Deir-El-Qamar, Lebanon, on May 28, 1879. Schamun worked in a variety of roles throughout his lifetime, such as contributing to diplomatic relations between Argentina and the Republic of Lebanon. He worked as a public translator and translated in the following languages: Arabic, French, English, Portuguese, Turkish, and Italian. Schamun was the author of works such as La Siria Nueva and Vocabulary Arabe-Español y Español-Arabe. Most notably, he was the director and editor of the newspaper As-Salam [Peace, السلام] founded on November 17, 1902. Together with his brother Wadi Schamun, they established the newspaper in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This periodical had its own printing press and was the first to be printed in modern Arabic typography. The paper was printed weekly and circulated from 1902–1988.
