Dick discusses the circumstances of how his family first came to the United States in the twentieth century and entered the country through Ellis Island. His family settled in Goldsboro, North Carolina and he was born in 1944. He went on to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and established his career there in the Athletics department.
