Subject
Description
A letter from Alice to her father Salloum Mokarzel, written in Beirut, Greater Syria (modern-day Lebanon). In this letter, dated November 30, 1925, Alice reflects on a car ride with her mother and siblings. They saw a few tourist attractions including three ancient monuments. She describes two of the three monuments, one being in honor of Napoleon Bonaparte and the other in honor of General Henri Gouraud. Alice and her family attended an event at the American University of Beirut and listened to speeches given by the former President of the university, David Dodge, and another by an unnamed University of Oxford graduate. As Christmas approaches, Alice feels as though there isn't as much excitement in Lebanon as there is in America. In closing, she hopes her father finds a "good place" to spend his Christmas.
