Biographical/Historical note

Al-Gurbal [La Criba, The Screen], was a magazine published by Lebanese immigrants in Mexico City, Mexico, from 1922 until 1992. Though primarily written in Spanish, it included Arabic sections. The publication was edited by Salim George Abud Andraues. Under his guidance, reporters for the publication traveled to and reported on events that impacted the Arab diaspora in the Middle East, Africa, and the Americas.

Al-Gurbal Informativo was a supplement to the magazine published from 1989-1990 that included information on contemporary events in the Middle East. The supplement was directed by Jorge E. Abud Chaml.

Dírectorío Líbanés was a general census taken in 1948 of Lebanese, Palestinian, and Syrian groups living within Mexico. The census publication was grouped by state, and each one included brief historical, geographical, and political comments.

Al-Gurbal Newspapers collection contains digital issues of La Criba dating from 1957-1992, Informativo dating from 1989-1990, and Dírectorío Líbanés for each state.
