Biographical/Historical note

Mahmoud Fayad [Kattar Ferris Fayad or Khnattas Faris Fayad] arrived in the United States on August 30, 1909. He became a United States citizen in 1935, and subscribed to the newspaper Nahdat al-Arab in order to keep up with news from both Lebanon and the Lebanese American community. The periodical was published in Detroit, Michigan starting in 1946 by Said D. Fayad. It was printed in Arabic semi-weekly.

Mahmoud's son, Sam Fayed, found the newspaper clippings among letters from Lebanon dated to the 1960s.

Scope/Content note

The collection includes clippings that Mahmoud Fayad kept that date to the 1950s-1960s. They include literary articles, articles about news in Lebanon and throughout the Middle East, as well as United States news.
