Sarkis was a member of a prominent literary family in Lebanon; he was a novelist, poet and historian. Additionally, Salim Sarkis was a prominent journalist and newspaperman: he began his newspaper career in Cairo and continued it after immigrating to the United States, publishing several newspapers in Boston, MA and New York.
