Al-Ayyam الأيام [The Chronicle] was a weekly Arabic newspaper published by Joseph (Ussef) Namaan Malouf at 60-62 Washington St. in New York City. The paper ran from 1896 to 1904 and employed Mansour J. Haddad as its compositor.
Joseph N. Malouf (sometimes spelled “Maloof”) was born in 1870 in Zahle, Lebanon. He worked at the Lebanese newspaper Lisan Al-Hal as their correspondent in Zahle and the district of Bakaa before immigrating to the United States in 1892. He traveled to Chicago and San Francisco before returning to New York in 1895 when he began Al-Ayyam following comments of support from his friends. He closed the paper in 1904 to prospect gold and returned to New York after six successful years to open a women’s clothing store.
